Definition of a TechSmithie

TechSmithies are passionate about helping people show what they know through our products. They take pride in what they do and what they make — always innovating and tinkering, with the goal of creating products that our customers tell us they “can’t live without.” TechSmithies care — about the work they do and the people they work with. They aren’t put off by a wild idea (in fact, they crave other perspectives) and love working with a team. They are comfortable with open office doors (or, maybe no doors at all) and open meetings. They are the first to raise their hands to volunteer for a task and also the first to give kudos to fellow TechSmithie on a job well done.

A day in the life of a TechSmithie

Time to innovate

We love what we do at TechSmith. When we say innovation is a priority, we mean it. Innovation drives how we structure our work. In addition to being an AGILE company, we use program increment planning to schedule out blocks of work, followed by blocks of time to work on passion projects (called “innovation sprints”). All other work stops, and TechSmithies have time to explore anything they want that relates in some way to bettering themselves or the company. We have seen firsthand how this time helps develop growth in our people and our products.

Surprises Included (The Good Kind)

At TechSmith, no two days are the same — and that’s how we like it. Our hybrid culture gives you the flexibility to work from home, the office, or both, without missing what makes our team click. We stay connected through all-hands meetings, virtual coffee chats, and hybrid-friendly events. In the office, expect surprise candy carts, paper airplane launches, or a teammate popping by to share a clever automation. You’ll hear talk of AI tools, keyboard hacks, and side projects. We work hard, stay curious, and always make space for a little fun.

Lunch, Leveled Up

At TechSmith, lunch is more than just a meal — it’s kind of a big deal. We cater in twice a week, giving everyone a reason to pause, hang out, and fuel up. Expect board games, basketball, podcast swaps, Mario Kart rematches, and maybe a stroll around the MSU campus. Good food + good people = one of the best parts of the week.

Our Community

We give back — it’s one of our favorite things.

And where and how we give back isn’t determined by a board of directors — it’s led by our employees. We offer paid time off for employees to volunteer and an employee giving program. It’s led to some amazing initiatives.

We give food, cash, and volunteering time donations to our local food bank.

We provide opportunities for area children to see a performance at the local Performance Art Theater.

The TechSmith headquarters is located on the campus of Michigan State University (Go Green!) in East Lansing, Michigan. We’re only a few miles away from Lansing, Michigan’s capital city.

The Greater Lansing area is the heart of Michigan, and we know you’ll #LoveLansing just like we do. Lansing has a little something for everyone, whether you want to take a stroll along the scenic River Trail, catch a game at Spartan Stadium, find an award-winning Broadway performance at the Wharton Center, take the whole family to Potter Park Zoo, or spend an afternoon learning and exploring at Impression 5 science center.
