Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about our certifications and short courses.
What does it mean to be certified in Camtasia or Snagit? How does it help me?

Certification demonstrates that you are a proficient and confident user of the product. Develop visual communication skills by recording and editing videos with Camtasia and creating images and videos with Snagit. The certification programs provide comprehensive exposure to the breadth of features available in both products, establishing a strong foundation for applying your expertise to various practical scenarios. Upon completion, employers can rest assured that you have gained significant working knowledge about Camtasia or Snagit.

How do I earn each Certification? And what do I get with it?

You will earn Camtasia or Snagit certification after you view all of the videos and take all of the quizzes in a course, passing each quiz with a minimum of 80% correct answers.

Upon successful completion, you’ll receive a digital certificate plus a shareable LinkedIn badge — proof you can point to when applying for jobs or promotions.

Do I need any experience with Camtasia or Snagit before I start?

No. Both certifications are built for beginners and start with the basics before moving into more advanced techniques — look for the Beginner tag on each certification above. No prior experience with the product is required.

Do I need an active subscription to take these courses?

No — they’re completely free. Anyone with a TechSmith account has full access to our Snagit and Camtasia certification courses, no active subscription required.

How does the content in the Camtasia or Snagit Certification compare to the free tutorials?

The free tutorials are fantastic and can be utilized along with the certification to grow your knowledge of Camtasia or Snagit. While there is some overlap in topics, the Certifications take a very different approach to the learning process. The Certification goes into more depth about the various tools (some not covered by the free tutorials) and also follows the author through the creation of a project (Camtasia) or actual use-case-specific workflows (Snagit). This methodology not only teaches you how to use the tools, but also enables you to see the outcomes throughout the process.

Does the content contain training for Mac users of Camtasia and Snagit?

Camtasia is very similar on both platforms. Where there are minor differences, efforts are made to note them. Where differences are significant, we have made specific lessons. It’s worth noting that questions about both platforms will be asked in the testing. Even if you are not a Mac user, understanding the differences between platforms is part of the certification and is currently required for completion.

Snagit is very similar across platforms. In instances where there are differences that affect workflow or potential understanding of feature use, efforts were made to call out those differences. There are no Mac specific lessons or quiz questions.

Do I need a certification before I can take a short course?

No — short courses are separate, goal-based lessons that pull together skills from across our products. Just sign in and start; there’s no certification prerequisite.
